ALOR SETAR, Oct 15 — The case involving former Kedah state executive councillor Muhammad Radzhi Salleh, who is alleged to have made unreasonable travel claims, is closed after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) found no elements of fraud or corruption.
Kedah MACC director Idrus Jaafar said the MACC deputy public prosecutor who studied the investigation report, agreed that the case be closed as all the claims made by Muhammad Radzhi were supported by appropriate documents, receipts and witnesses.
“The investigation into the case began middle of this year and was closed recently (October),” he said after attending the MACC Aidilfitri celebration here today.
Muhammad Radzhi, who is also Lunas assemblyman and former Kedah Tourism and Community Development Committee chairman, on Aug 25 announced his decision to quit Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and became an independent assemblyman.
Idrus said Muhammad Radzhi’s case was among the four allegations of corruption involving politicians in the state reported to the Kedah MACC so far this year.
He said the investigations on the other three cases, however, were ongoing.
He also said that from January till today, the Kedah MACC had received 565 pieces of information from various sources, but only 317 or 56 per cent of the cases showed elements of corruption.
From the information, 24 arrests had been made, involving a government officer in the management and professional group, nine in the support group and 14 civilians and bribes totalling RM26,689 were seized, he said. — Bernama
