PENANG, Oct 31 – The Penang Government Officers Cooperative has agreed to allow Nusmetro Venture (M) Sdn Bhd, the developer of Kampung Buah Pala project, to build 24 units of terrace houses for the villagers.
Cooperative chairman Abdul Razak Mansor said the decision was in accordance with the state goverment’s wishes that the villagers be given terrace houses to settle the issue.
He said the cooperative had set a condition that the first ten families which accepted the offer to vacate the land be included among recipients of the 24 units of double storey terrace houses.
“The special meeting today approved the building of 24 units of terrace houses for Kampung Buah Pala villagers, just like what the developer wanted.
“The decision is final and no additional units will be built. Villagers who did not accept the developer’s offer are not among the recipients,” he told reporters after the meeting here today.
Of the 33 families who stayed on the cooperative land, ten had initially accepted the offer to vacate followed by 12 families recently.
Abdul Razak said requests from 11 remaining families who had refused the developer’s offer to vacate the land would not be entertained.
“They can make claims to the state government and developer. It is up to the developer if it wants to relocate them to another piece of land. The cooperative land is out of bounds.”
He hoped the cooperative decision would resolve the Kampung Buah Pala controversy and was acceptable to the state government.
“We have given full cooperation to the state government and hope that development on the land can continue without obstruction,” he said. – Bernama
