SANDAKAN, Nov 13 – The implementation of the parole system in Sabah has been deemed a success. Of the 101 people in the system since July last year, 74 have completed their parole terms.
Sabah Prisons Department (parole division) deputy director Onasis Abdul Husin said the state had the highest number of parolees in the country.
“Most of them immediately obtained employment, proving that the system gave confidence to parolees to return to the community.
“It also deleted all negative perception associated with parolees,” he said at the Community Development Department’s food donation ceremony to eight parolees here today.
Onasis said, as a rehabilitation centre, the department continued to implement various measures and promotions for government agencies, non-governmental organisations and the local community to increase their understanding and confidence on the parole system.
He noted that the parolees needed support from the government so that they could show that they were productive and useful citizens. – Bernama
