MARCH 1 — Come March 8, it will be two years since our historic general elections in 2008, but many Malaysians are already jaded by the realities that make the changes they want seem slow or impossible to happen.

Lessons from Chicken Run

FEB 5 — A quote that may serve as a useful reminder to the mainstream media and some quarters in general whenever discussing issues in Malaysia, comes from the animated film “Chicken Run”; a story about a band of chickens trying to escape their coop before being made into chicken pot pies.

If you’ve watched this fine piece of comedy escape drama, you may remember the scene where the character Ginger gives a motivational speech to spur all fellow chickens towards an escape plan by saying, “Listen. We’ll either die free chickens or we die trying!!!”

Amidst the heightened emotions and the seriousness of their situation, Babs — a chicken in the crowd — innocently asks, “Are those the only choices?”

Suggestions for 1 Malaysia

JAN 22 — The recent controversy over the “A” word, and the inability of the authorities to resolve it from the start has further damaged the credibility of the 1 Malaysia campaign.

Some say it’s beyond repair. But let’s not be too negative; after all, our dwindling taxpayer’s money has already been painfully spent on it.
