NOV 9 – I am responding to an article by Wong Chun Wai in The Sunday Star, Nov 8 on page F 25, under his column, “On The Beat”.

This is not the first time I have read Wong’s writing. Other articles he wrote carry the sense of “responsible journalism” as he is very straightforward in his articulation of the social-economic and political happenings in this country. He does write a lot about accountability and transparency and is a critic of racial politics.

Although I do not share all his thoughts, I was taught by my religious upbringing, i.e. Islam, to respect other people’s opinions and listen although they may be contrary to your understanding. This is called in the discipline of Islamic knowledge as “I’lmu al ikhtilaf”, the science of conflict in thoughts.

NOV 6 — Saya dihubungi seminggu sebelum ini oleh Penerbit Program Hujah TV9 yang menyatakan hasrat ingin menjemput saya dalam program yang dihoskan oleh Dr Agus Yusof, seorang ahli akademik dan penganalisis politik tanahir yang terkenal.

Saya teruja juga kerana sebelum ini saya mendengar rakan-rakan saya menyertai program ini sebagai panel dan membincangkan topik-topik hangat tentang politik tanah air. Gambaran saya ialah program Hujah TV9 sememangnya mahukan pandangan yang kontroversial supaya penonton dapat melihat kelainan dari program TV1 Debat ataupun forum Awani dari Astro.

OKT 13 – Saya kembali dari Bagan Pinang setelah seminggu lebih berkampong di sana pada hari mengundi iaitu 11 hb. Jadual saya hari mengundi itu ialah ditugaskan untuk menjaga peti undi di estet Etherton yang kini dikenali sebagai Estate Salak.

Saya bersama dengan Pesuruhjaya PAS Negeri Melaka, Ustaz Ghani Abdul Rahman dan seluruh jentera Melaka memastikan pengundian hari itu berjalan lancar bagi pihak PAS.

Selain dari bertugas saya juga dapat bertemu dengan kawan-kawan lama dari Melaka yang hampir semuanya saya kenali. Isteri saya turut berada disisi untuk rayu undi saat-saat akhir bagi memastikan calon PAS menang dalam PRk B.Pinang.

OKT 6 — Kali ini saya berada di Bagan Pinang untuk turut serta berkempen bagi memenangkan calon PAS Sdr Zulkefly Mohd Bin Omar.

Saya memilih untuk menulis tentang calon PAS di N31 kerana beberapa sebab, pertama saya mengenali beliau selaku rakan seperjuangan dalam Dewan Pemuda PAS Pusat, kedua kerana saya sering bertandang ke Negeri Sembilan semasa terlibat dengan PAS Melaka dan banyak mengadakan program khususnya ketika peringkat awal penubuhan Kelab Penyokong PAS di Seremban.

Ketiga, saya mahu mengalih  tajuk 2 siri tentang Islamic State Revised and Revisited untuk menulis sesuatu yang ringan dan bersantai kali ini.

SEPT 20 — I started in an earlier article "Islamic State: Revisited and Revised" that the whole substance of the article was meant to make readers understand the underpinning of what constitutes the notion of an Islamic State.

To summarise the notion, one can conclude that an Islamic State is part of the manifestation of faith since the word Ad Deen  is significantly referred to "as a way of life" for a Muslim. Secondly, the political behaviour of a Muslim is guided by the teachings of the Prophets (pbuh) and is considered a faithful act fulfilling the necessities of reward from God. Thirdly, the structure of an Islamic State does not rest its premise on the foundation of God’s representative on earth, rather, it is the premise of vicegerency where the ruler and the subject are accountable.

Finally, one cannot for sure confine the thinking of an Islamic state base on the secularist worldview because the Islamic experience of statehood has proven that religion played an effective role in erecting the nation and Islamic civilisation; on the contrary religion in the Middle Ages of Europe has been considered as a source of backwardness and darkness .
